A true story that began with pain
In 2023, after months of persistent pain in the front of my foot, I visited a podiatrist and discovered that the shoes I had worn my entire life were the cause of the pain.
I was advised to switch to supportive footwear, start an exercise routine to strengthen my feet… and the pain disappeared.
But the real discovery was something else:
My foot was atrophied. At 31, I couldn't move my little toe independently. Its mobility was nonexistent, and its shape had changed. The little toe bent, hidden under its neighbor, with no room to move.
How had I not seen it before?
Why is nobody talking about this?
Why doesn't footwear have an anatomical shape?
Why did pointed shoes become fashionable?
That day I arrived home with my head full of questions. I told them to my business partner.
The idea that was born on a walk
The next day, on one of our walks after work, I said to him:
—Would it be a good idea to create a barefoot shoe brand?
And she answered me with something that changed everything:
—I think we can try it.
And so, without a name yet, but with a clear mission, what is now Barefit was born: a barefoot shoe brand, designed for the average citizen of Spain, adapted to the current economic context, but with all the style of the best brands.
We didn't want barefooting to be a Malasaña fad.
Because barefooting shouldn't be confined to cities like Madrid, Barcelona, or Valencia.
Barefit was born so that this footwear revolution can also reach those small cities that the AVE high-speed train doesn't reach, where nobody talks about barefoot yet, but where there are also feet that need freedom.
This isn't a fad. It's about health. And health shouldn't depend on your postal code.
Doubts that almost killed ideas
And, of course, all the doubts that usually end projects arrived:
We're not experts in footwear, will we be able to do it?
We hired a specialist to design the shoes with us. We learned from the best.
Are manufacturers going to reject us because we only want a few units to make our design?
We persisted, we searched, and we succeeded.
And many more questions that we answered step by step. Sometimes successfully, sometimes unsuccessfully, but always moving forward.
Today, two years later…
We're still here, more excited than ever.

That summer of 2023, I walked the Camino de Santiago wearing eco-friendly footwear. It was an experience that solidified this change.
On a wall along the road, I read a phrase that stuck with me:
“Don’t dream your life, live your dreams.”
And that's what we're doing. This project, which started in a podiatrist's office, is something we experience every day. Every shipment, every new customer who puts on Barefit for the first time, makes it all the more real.
And now?
We will continue working to bring barefoot walking to more people, with more models, more points of sale, and more informative and engaging content.
